FCCPC Calls for Improved Capacity Building on Competition Reporting and Related Matters
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has called for improved capacity building for journalists and other stakeholders in the reporting and understanding of competition-related matters in Nigeria.
The Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, Tunji Bello, said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday.
The Commission made the call while highlighting the need for greater public awareness and accurate reporting of issues relating to competition, consumer protection and market regulation.
According to the FCCPC, strengthening the capacity of media professionals on competition matters would contribute to more informed public discourse and promote better understanding of the regulatory framework governing businesses and consumers.

The Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, Tunji Bello, said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday.
The Commission noted that competition reporting often involves technical economic and regulatory issues, making specialised knowledge important for journalists covering the sector. Improved understanding, it said, would help ensure that reports on market practices, consumer rights, regulatory interventions and enforcement activities are accurate and properly contextualised.
The FCCPC further stressed the importance of collaboration among regulators, the media, businesses and other stakeholders in promoting fair competition and protecting consumers.
It encouraged journalists to deepen their knowledge of competition law and consumer protection principles and to engage relevant experts and regulatory authorities when reporting complex issues.
The Commission said sustained capacity building would also help bridge information gaps and enable members of the public to better understand their rights and responsibilities in the marketplace.
The FCCPC reiterated its commitment to strengthening competition and consumer protection in Nigeria, while urging stakeholders to support efforts aimed at creating a more transparent, competitive and consumer-friendly marketplace.
